About
These People Are Sick is the writing arm of Persius, a project dedicated to providing free digital tools to help U.S. consumers navigate issues with health insurance. Our mission is to advocate for patients, end injustices, and improve systems in U.S. healthcare through collective action. While we pursue it, we'll be writing about injustices in healthcare, data, interests and stories here.
Contributors
Mike is a machine learning engineer with a long background in math and physics. Most recently he worked at the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence building computer vision tools to support regulators of illegal fishing. He enjoys dreaming about removing profits from U.S. healthcare and increasing accountability in the current system. He is deeply troubled by corporate power and the role of perverse monetary incentives in U.S. healthcare.
Floyd
Floyd is one of the cats of Persius. He enjoys obstructing the use of keyboards, meowing to be let out, meowing to be let in, and lounging in boxes and on tables. As a cat, he does not enjoy the protections of the ACA; in fact, pet insurers are allowed to deny enrollment due to pre-existing conditions, which we found out when Floyd was diagnosed with a urinary condition. Luckily, he's doing well these days.
